  • At the casino with Jermall Charlo!

So I’m in Aruba on a nice vacation but I can never really escape boxing because I’m an absolute magnet for it wherever I go. On Thursday night I’m at the Ritz Carlton casino at the roulette wheel wearing a Marvin Hagler Newark NJ shirt and I’m losing my shirt on black. The next night I return to the scene of the crime but I don’t have that shirt on. I go to the same table as Thursday night and I’m looking for a seat but the table is full and there is a small entourage of hangers on hanging around a guy at the table wearing a hat and looking an awful lot like a Charlo twin. So I’m looking at him. He’s kinda looking at me. I’m tall so it happens. Then he suddenly makes a big smile and motions to me like he knows me; prompting me to approach him. I do.

He offers his hand like we’re buddies and he pulls me in for that bro hug (awkward for me at my height really) and he says, “you from the plane right?” I go, “you’re one of those Charlos right?” He says, “yup, Jermall, WBC middleweight champion.” I go, “right, and I’m a boxing writer and I’ve written about you before and would like to do so again.” He was very happy to hear this and was like, “ok let’s do it.” So I get his cell number and share with him who I am with a few texts with who I write for etc. I send him a link to my story on TSS covering his first title win in Connecticut and he “loved” on that on Valentines Day.

You just can’t make this stuff up. And after making that contact he and his crew left the casino and so it would’ve been very easy to have missed him if the timing wasn’t absolutely perfect.

Ya Matt, so true! So I’m thinking about what kind of story to do and my first thought is to maybe do a Q&A style feature like the one I did with Micky Ward in 2018. Incidentally, in that is buried one of the (if not THE) first instance of Ward coming right out and saying he’s got CTE. I guess it’s getting much worse for him and it’s making the media rounds now. So with Jermall I think he and his brother share a belief that they are misunderstood and need to be asked the right things in the right way so maybe they’ll connect better with American fans. Answering the critics is something I feel they/he wish to do. We shall see!!

Your interview with Ward was very well done and that would be a good approach with Charlo. I have often found that when I meet with boxers that their tv personalities (or how they are made to be perceived) are far different than who they actually are as a person. I am looking forward to the story.

Thanks Matt. When I meet these boxing people unexpectedly in the wild, I never act in the least bit star struck and I almost never ask for a photo or an autograph. I mean come on. What I did get was his cell number and a seed for new story. As a journalist that is the vibe I put out into the boxing world. When it just happens naturally and of its own course, that’s when my best stuff gets done. I used to bend the world to my will but that only works for so long. Now I realize that I’m not in control. He is.

That must have felt really great, ain't it dude?! However, I liked the story about how you lost your shirt on the roulette way more interesting DDD. I mean, I am kind of addicted to gambling, however I never play the roulette, as it is only based on luck and you cannot learn how to play it. Mostly, I prefer poker and blackjack. Well, right now due to the pandemic I have to play a lot on casino online. I mean, the lockdown, the virus and so on and so forth. Actually, I have earned a hell a lot of money out of it.

It was strange and quite surreal, a vacation scene from a world of freedom and liberty that no longer exists. Unfortunately, nothing ever came of it. My later efforts to reach him for a story went unrealized. I still don’t really understand who he thought I was (or why) because I don’t believe we were on a plane together but if so that’s where he’d have noticed me, a seven foot man wandering the isle in an effort to stretch his legs. A scene like this could never play out now in the world of mass masking and the contagious fear of our fellow man as carriers of contagion.

Your story is very funny but true! Losing my shirt on black reminds me of one evening not long ago. I was playing at 888.com for more than ten hours. It was a great evening, I was winning more than $7k. Suddenly, I decided to play on roulette. I guess you know the result. I lost all my stake within half an hour. Then I sat still and began to think... what have I done. Luckily, I thought of the ethroll.casino site I haven't played at for more than three years. I deposited from my Ethereum address and started playing. In the morning I looked at my funds and saw a number '$9k'. That's what I came for there! Yes, it was a sleepless night, but what satisfaction in the end!

I’m not too hopeful about mass demasking ever happening but after months and months of the fake news media attempting to enforce mask mandates with an iron fist, I’m starting to see that same media actually reporting on some states relaxing their local mask mandates and other similar draconian policies.

Such as criminalizing freedom of assembly.

Maybe they are really just teasing us?

This is looking very treacherous, to be honest... What do you think about this mass vaccination?

I’ve seen this sequence, it was an impressive KO. Still, about the interview, I can’t say anything because I did not read it yet. One of my poker partners from แทงบอล told me that there are a lot of rumors outside, and those rumors say that it was a bought fight, and both boxers made millions on this fight. Well, I don’t believe it, but I can’t disagree with the fact that more than 40% of the matches held today are bought. That is the reality of the sport, unfortunately, and people are making millions on that fake fights.

Love casinos, seriously, this is just my favorite hobby. I see this as a good way to relax, and to spend some quality time after work, and sometimes I can win some money also, so it's a good side hustle. I prefer poker, don't ask me why, I just like when the adrenaline flows through my blood, and this game gives me this feeling. If you guys are interested I am using the 7bit casino review platform. So if you want, and also play poker, we can play a game together sometime.
