COMMERCE, Ca.-As Elton John once said, “Saturday night is made for fighting” and the Los Angeles area accommodated boxing fans from downtown L.A. to East L.A. and to the city of Commerce with three packed shows.

    Commerce staged the pro bouts.

Cristopher Rios (9-0) remained undefeated with a victory by unanimous decision over super tough Filipino Jeronil Borres (11-7-1) at the Commerce Casino after six rounds. Those were the most competitive rounds of the fight by the flyweights in front of more than 1,600 fans at the Redboxing and Elite Boxing Promotions card.

It did not look good for Rios in the first round when he was smacked with a counter right and dropped. The Compton fighter was more angry than hurt.

Both flyweights were lightning quick, strong and willing to exchange blows despite the risk. Rios showed better defense throughout the six-round fight and his many supporters were extremely vocal during the fight.

After six tense rounds the judges scored for Rios 58-55, 57-56 twice.

Screams from his female supporters reverberated throughout the outdoor venue.

Two lightweight blasters met for a regional title but Mexico’s Oscar Alvarez (6-0, 6 KOs) emerged the winner with his sixth consecutive knockout. This time the victim was Southern California’s Brandon Cruz (8-3, 5 KOs) a knockout artist too. After two one-sided rounds in the third and fourth round Cruz’s corner requested referee Rudy Barragan to stop the lightweight fight at 2:36 of the fourth round.

Another lightweight clash saw Eric Mondragon (7-0-1) pound his way to victory over the taller Percy Peterson (3-17-4) to win by unanimous decision after six rounds. Mondragon scored a knockdown in the fourth round with a three-punch combination.

In a female super lightweight fight Aida Satybaldinova (6-2-1) was able to scrape by Jaica Pavilus (3-6-1) and win by decision after six rounds. Satybaldinova is from Kazakhstan and this was her first fight in the U.S. since 2018.

A lightweight match saw Jesus Ahumada (19-4) beat Leonardo Torres (10-16-1) by unanimous decision after eight rounds.

Adrian Alvarado (6-0-1) floored Israel Luna (2-2) in the second round and won by unanimous decision after six rounds in a bantamweight bout.

Jose Elias (4-0) won by knockout over Ryan Venable (3-12) in the second round by a body shot at 2:47 in a welterweight fight.

A lightweight fight saw Damian Carrillo (1-0) win his debut by decision after two knockdowns of Jeffrey Wells (0-3).

A battle between winless lightweights saw Raul Chavez (1-0-1) beat Raul Matias (0-1) by majority decision after four rounds.

In a super bantamweight match Jaime Rios (0-1-1) and Larry Serrano (0-2-1) fought to a majority draw after four rounds.
