MONTEBELLO-With only a handful of fights, super welterweight Callum Walsh has emerged as a potential big seller. Walsh, who has big backing, defeated Ben Whitaker by decision on Thursday night’s Hollywood Fight Nights.

In a well-matched fight Walsh (4-0) pulled out a victory over the more experienced Whitaker (15-9) in front of numerous celebrities including his sponsor UFC’s Dana White at the Quiet Cannon on a 360 Promotions card.

Ireland’s Walsh had it too easy in his first three pro fights. This time the matchmaker made sure there would be a lesson learned and indeed it happened. San Antonio’s Whitaker was able to extend the wunderkind all the way till the final bell in the sixth round.

Previously, all three of Walsh’s previous foes did not survive the first round. Despite suffering a knockdown in the second round, Whitaker forced the Irish fighter to win by unanimous decision. The scores were 60-53 across the board.

In the co-main event, undefeated Chelsey Anderson (6-0, 2 KOs) seemed intent on scoring a knockout win over Aida Satybaldinova (6-3-1), but the shorter lightweight fighter was obstinate and seldom gave openings.

Anderson attempted to set traps for the fighter from Kazakhstan but though caught with a sizzling uppercut early in the fight, Satybaldinova survived and rallied behind some clever fighting.

Around the sixth round of the title fight set for eight, Satybaldinova slowed down and that opened up Anderson for her lethal rights. She took over the fight from that point on until Satybaldinova rallied back in the final round.

After eight rounds, all three judges scored in favor of Anderson 78-74 and 77-75 twice. The win gives Orange County’s Anderson the WBC International lightweight title and a higher ranking.

    Other Bouts

Eric Priest (8-0, 6 KOs) won the battle between undefeated super middleweights with a knockout over Cory Conner (3-1) at 2:46 of the first round. The quick hands of Conner were neutralized by a single right cross down the pipe from Priest.

Cem Celic (17-1) defeated Marco Delgado (7-4) in mechanical fashion to win by decision after eight rounds.

Jesus Gonzalez (5-0) won by split decision over Eduardo Diaz (7-3) despite a point deduction for an alleged low blow. Two judges scored it 38-37 for Gonzalez and one judge favored Diaz 38-37.

Jordan Panthen (1-0) won his pro debut by knockout over Arturo Manriquez (2-2-2) at 1:16 of the first round in their super middleweight fight. A right to the chin and left hook to the body ended the fight abruptly. Panthen hails from Hawaii.

A super featherweight clash saw Omar Cande Trinidad (9-0-1) win by knockout of Javier Padilla (7-1-1) at 1:42 of the fourth round.

A super lightweight match saw Jose Rodriguez (3-1) beat Armando Vazquez (0-1) by knockout in the first round.
