I know this is four years old, but just came across it looking for soemthing else and wanted to congratulate you on an excellent piece. I followed JTs career when he was coming up and was at the MGM Grand cheering when he won the middleweight title agains B Hopkins. He was always so personable and humble and could light up a room. I can't fathom what sort of mental demons were haunting him during his tragic fall from grace. Boxing is a tough, brutal sport, obviously, but there may have been some inherited mental issues as well, from his father's side. It's frustrating to see how mental heatlh goes untreated in our country, with all our advances in science and medicine. Instead of getting treatment, people with these issues are met with incarceration, especially black males Anyway, you really hit the target with this one.
