Ireland’s Callum Walsh blasted out Carlos Ortiz in a battle between southpaw sluggers on a 360 Promotions card at Chumash Casino on Friday.

It didn’t take long to see the disparity in talent.

Walsh (11-0, 9 KOs) knocked out the knockout specialist and showed the Central California fans why he holds a regional super welterweight title and is ranked by the WBC. Now, he wants to show fans in his native Ireland his talent.

“I’m coming home,” said Walsh who is from Cork, Ireland. “I want my next fight to be in Ireland.”

It was visible in the opening round that Walsh was the sharper fighter and especially with the right hook. That proved to be the difference early in the fight between southpaws. Ortiz (14-6, 14 KOs) was dropped in the first round and twice in the second round by right hooks.

“I don’t go and run around. I come to fight and he came to fight,” Walsh said.

A right hook staggered Ortiz and Walsh followed up with three lightning blows to end the fight. Referee Jack Reiss stopped the fight at 1:50 of the second round.

The match was expected to determine how far along Walsh stands in the super welterweight division. It was a blowout victory.

A flyweight match saw Daniel “Chucky” Barrera (7-0-1) rally to a decision win over Christian Robles (8-3) after eight back-and-forth rounds. Barrera and Robles exchanged freely, but in the end the taller fighter out-hustled his foe for a unanimous decision 77-75 twice and 79-73.

“I knew he was going to be tough,” Barrera said. “He’s been in there with an Olympian.”

Other Bouts

Lupe Medina (7-0) defeated Ahley Felix (4-3) by decision after six rounds in a minimumweight fight.

Jorge Maravillo (10-0) beat Jose Manuel Gomez (4-5-1) by decision after six middleweight rounds.

Super bantamweight Alex Gueche (5-0, 5 KOs) knocked out Jonathan Almacen (7-11-3) in one round.
